Early intervention of rehabilitation therapy plays a very important role in improving the overall treatment level of patients, preventing and alleviating disability, and promoting patients' early return to society. For people with the same disability, whether the rehabilitation is carried out sooner or later, whether the rehabilitation measures are appropriate, and whether the rehabilitation work is persistent, makes a great difference in alleviating the disability, and has a greater psychological impact on the disabled. If this work is done well, the physically disabled can benefit for life and their psychological rehabilitation can be guaranteed.

Traditionally, it takes half a year to install a prosthetic limb after amputation until the stump is mature and set. Temporary prostheses, on the other hand, can be fitted within two weeks of amputation. Practice has proved that this is an effective way to improve the stump function and promote the early recovery of amputees.

(1) Assembly points of temporary prosthetics

It takes about three months to wear a temporary prosthesis. When the swelling of the stump subside, the stump does not change, and the patient is able to walk proficiently alone, a formal prosthesis can be ordered.

On the premise of compensating function, temporary prosthesis has the characteristics of simple structure, convenient assembly, easy adjustment and replacement. A plaster cavity is usually used with a brace joint and a prosthetic foot attached.

In the process of use, with the atrophy of the residual limb, residual limb sleeve can be added on the residual limb sleeve to adjust the tightness of the receiving cavity. Usually about weeks to add a layer of stump sleeve, a month after the need to cover 4~8 layers. If the stump atrophy is obvious and the recipient cavity is too loose, a new recipient cavity should be replaced.

Temporary prosthetics are made in the case of patients' first installation and poor stump conditions, so it has high requirements for the assembly technology and gait training, such as shaping, shaping, line adjustment, etc. It must be made and guided by skilled prosthetics technicians, and closely observe, find problems in time, and modify in time.

(2) Advantages of temporary prosthetics:

Patients can be discharged from the hospital by wearing temporary prosthetics and can return to society earlier.

② Before the formal prosthesis is made, not only the temporary prosthesis can be used to train in the parallel bar, but also practical walking training;

Reducing bed rest can prevent limb contracture, so as to maintain or improve the overall state;

④ can promote the stump early maturity;

This method is especially suitable for patients with lower leg amputations and Syme amputations, who can gain confidence and practical ability to walk through the installation of temporary prostheses.

(3) Temporary prosthesis was installed immediately after surgery

In order to get amputees out of bed with prostheses earlier, temporary prostheses fitted in plaster receptacles are made on the operating table after amputation. This has been a recompense for a speedy recovery in recent years:

Get out of bed early, can prevent bad limb position, contracture and low muscle strength, so that patients maintain a good state of the whole body;

Formal prosthesis can be installed as soon as possible, hospital stay can be shortened, and society can be returned as soon as possible.

③ immediate use of prosthetic limbs after surgery, can achieve early ground, so as to reduce the psychological pressure of patients;

④ early elimination of pain, reduce residual edema, thrombosis and other clinical complications, amputation trauma early healing;

However, due to the high requirements of this method for aseptic conditions, postoperative inconvenient observation, patients have a sense of discomfort in bed, and due to the inadaptability of residual weight bearing resulting in wound changes (especially blood circulation disorders) and other shortcomings, so this method is not widely used at present.
